A smashbook is whatever you want it to be, of course, but might be considered a combination of scrapbooking and writing. (Although again, you don’t need to write!)

Again, this is not necessarily its’ own type of journal but it is a different way to think about the concept of journaling.

Some examples include:

  • Adding a dried flower from a hike.
  • Maybe even expanding on that flower to paint a full scene.
  • Maybe also adding a photo you took, as reference.
  • Gluing a ticket onto a page. Or a brochure. Or both.
  • Maybe writing a short blurb about the experience of what that ticket was from.
  • Adding a lock of hair from a haircut.
  • A list of _______
  • Maybe adding visual elements (doodles, collage, etc.) to support the items on that list

A smashbook can be a specific type of journal if you focus it on gratitude, or a specific time frame, etc. Or, it can just be a collection of random thoughts, ideas, and experiences.

The key, as in all things, is to just enjoy the process and not worry about the end result!
